最近這幾個月工作比較忙碌,所以寫blog的時間減少了。不過,說故事的時間並沒有減少。雖然我每天幾乎都會講英文的故事給Rosie聽,但是我沒有刻意要求Rosie說英文。我個人認為,要「說英文」之前必須有相當充足地「聽英文」。我平常沒有刻意跟她說英文,只有聽英文故事,所以也就不要求她一定要說英文。
前幾天Rosie在跟妹妹玩的時候發生了一件令人哭笑不得的事。當時,妹妹正在玩一個玩具。Rosie一把搶走妹妹的玩具說:「My turn.」。我楞了一下,才想起來是Molly Bang的[When Sophie Gets Angry- Really Really Angry]中,姊姊搶Sophie玩具時說的話。我當時笑彎了腰,Rosie自己也覺得很好笑。原來聽英文繪本故事真的可以學英文--包括吵架的英文。

說英文」之前必須有相當充足地「聽英文... I absolutely agree with you by that... I tried to speak to my daughter as much English as I could. However she respond me with Chinese all the time. Today, she just popped out with a sentence in English to her sister "Claudia, don't drink the water. It's stinky bad water. "That really supried me a lot. And when I saw your words about listening first, I'm very happy that I didn't just give up while she response in Chinese all the time. I kept providing a lot of information in English, and she really accumulated it in heart.
Thanks, Megan. I learned this theory from a teachers' workshop conducted by EW books. The lecturer said that even when learning/acquiring mother tongue, we started to speak after we had listened to it about one year. We can't expect the students to speak English without enough English input. Your daughter is so cute and she must love her sister very much.
